Electric Service
The APPA’s Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) program recognizes utilities that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. Criteria within each of those four RP3 areas are based on sound business practices and recognized industry leading practices.
KUB achieved Diamond recognition, the highest level of the program, with its first application. KUB announced the award at the June 18, 2015, KUB Board Meeting.
The APPA has more than 2,000 community-owned member utilities, with 184 in the RP3 program. There are 16 RP3 utilities in Tennessee, and KUB is one of only eight who have achieved diamond level recognition. Some of the other Tennessee utilities recognized at the Diamond level for 2015 include those in Nashville, Memphis, and Johnson City.
Capacity, reliability, and service make the KUB electric system attractive to all users, especially high-tech and high-volume industries. KUB's commitment to employee training, system renewal and replacement, and computer outage analysis helps ensure system reliability.
KUB provides electric service to over 199,000 customers in Knoxville and portions of Knox and six surrounding counties.
