Tree Pruning and Landscaping
KUB takes our responsibility to provide safe, reliable power seriously. Our Vegetation Management Program seeks to prevent problems through ongoing maintenance of more than 5,000 miles of line pruning along approximately 1,000 miles of that line each year.
Pruning is an essential part of electric safety and reliability, and as we prune, we make it a priority to maintain the health of the trees as well. KUB's Vegetation Management Program was established based on input from the Tree Trim Policy Review Panel made up of Knoxville-area residents.
KUB's Pruning Process
KUB informs customers with a letter approximately two weeks before crews show up to inspect tree lines. If crew members find a tree that requires pruning, the tree will be marked with paint and a door hanger will be left on the door with pruning information.
Trees are pruned using the lateral pruning method recommended by the Arbor Day Foundation. KUB prunes trees in the utility maintenance zone, not trees interfering with individual service lines. See more about vegetation management responsibilities here and service repair responsibilities here.
