Keep children safe around electricity
Below are some specific rules and precautions that parents should teach their children to help them practice safety around electricity.
- It's safest to play and fly kites in an open field—not near overhead lines
- It is not safe to climb utility poles—stay away
- Stay away from substation fences or electrical equipment
- It is not safe to climb trees where electrical wires are present
- Keep metallic balloons and model airplanes away from power lines
- Stay away from water when anything electrical is present
- Don't break insulators on electrical equipment
- Electrical outlets are for electrical plugs only
